Homoeopathy
What to expect The homeopathic model does not make a distiction between physical ailments and emotions. We believe a mental state can create or be influenced by a physical ailment and visa versa.
This is why a Homeopathic consultation can be very broad. I will ask questions about your past, to establish the trends in your health, your family health, your likes and dislikes and your emotions and dreams. All of this information provides creates a ‘picture’ which informs what homeopathic remedy will suit you best.
Not medical A homeopathic remedy is not ‘medical’ in the western sense even though some questions you will be asked will relate to your medical history. Knowing what medication you are currently taking or have taken may point to certain symptoms being masked by medication and some symptoms you may be experiencing could be a side effect of medication so it is important to identify this.
History Homoeopathy has a history of about 200 years of clinical practice. It was developed by a physician called Samuel Hahnemann who discovered that his patients were getting better in his medical practice when he applied two main principles.
The first principle is ‘like treats like’ or the ‘law of similars’, and the second is the principle of the minimum dose. The smaller the dosage of medicine the more effective was the return to health. This process we use to make remedies in homeopathy is called ‘Potentising’. In effect the greater the dilution of a remedy the more potent it becomes.
Samual Hahnemann asserted that the path to cure must be gentle and to cure a disease you must stimulate a person’s ‘vital force’ which can be interpreted as an element of the immune system in the western medical sense or ‘Qi’ in the context of Chinese medicine or Prana in Ayurvedic medicine.
A correctly chosen remedy taken within the framework of the above principles was found to bring about cure. Homoeopathy remains a popular form of treatment in Europe and is routinely used in the sub-continent of India by a large part of the population.
What is it good for? A whole range of conditions can be treated with Homeopathy. Physical, mental and emotional. Homeopathy does not distinguish between a physical ailment and a mental or emotional ailment.
